Before I can update his first fall, he fell the second time. The second time was more serious than the first fall. Heartache..heartache...why? why???
The first fall happened last Friday night. It was a fall from a flight of stairs. Approximately 5 steps before reaching the ground. Hubby and I were in the room attending to crying Isabel for about 1.5 hours. He came in and out the room and wanted me to bring him to my sister's house to meet his favourite yi yi SS, who has just came down from Ipoh. I told him to go out and as he was disturbing the ever fussy sister.
The second time he came in around 10.30pm, I shooed him out again. Hubby then suggested he'd better go out and make him sleep. Or else, he will keep coming in and disturbing us. Just not long as he stepped out of the room, I heard Darren crying loudly. I assumed it was hubby forcing him to go to bed and hence, leading him to cry in protest.
About half an hour later (yes, I was still in Isabel's room, calming her down and making her sleep), hubby came in and told me that Darren has fell from the stairs.
Apparently hubby told him to go to the bedroom after he stepped out from Isabel's room but our dear Darren protested and walked down by himself. I'm not sure whether his hands were holding anything. Hubby was checking some letters on the table. Suddenly he heard some banging sound and quickly he looked down and saw Darren half way falling down the stairs. My helper was nearby him and immediately hold him up. Hubby rushed down and checked on him. A big bump appeared on his forehead. They use cold compress on the bump but still the bump swelled as big as a quil egg.

He came in to Isabel's room later and I saw his big bump on the forehead. He then went to bed. Later when we checked back on the CCTV, we witnessed how he fell from the stairs and it gave me a shock the way he fell.
He was walking down the stairs as usual and like to walk at the side of the wall and not holding the railing. Just about 5 steps before reaching the ground, somehow his body leaned forward and he could not balance and hence, fall head down to the ground. While he was falling, he tried to grab on something and with those "hands and legs flinging movement", he was able to escape fall straight ON the stairs itself (and he might hit the edges of those steps) and helped him to "fly" down to the ground and landed face down. It was really a hard hit on his forehead. Luckily nothing happened to his glasses and other parts of the body.
Before his swell subsided, he had his second fall in the playground last evening.
He was playing the slide at the playground and he should be quite familiar with the slide as he has been playing there since young. I was around him (next to the slide to be exact), pushing Isabel in her tricycle. I witnessed his fall this time with my own eyes.
While he was sliding down half way, suddenly he flipped over and make a 1.5 turn down the slide and landed face down on the base of the slide. So happened the base of the slide was mended with "cement". He fell straight face down on the cement, which caused him more injury this time. He could not move with his face burried on the cement base and immediately I rushed to him and lifted him up. I was praying HARD as I was so worried his glasses would break and cut his face or eyes. What I saw was his nose was bleeding and his bump on the forehead get more bruised and stone marks on other parts of the forehead. His glasses were quite badly scratched. I took out his glasses and checked on him. Immediately I ordered him to go home and surprisingly he answered me,
"No mommy, I still want to play.."
I told him his nose is bleeding and we needed to go home and clean up. I thought it could be the glasses that pressed on his nose caused the nose bleed. But after reaching home, I noticed that it was the scratches at his left nostril that caused the bleeding. The blood did not come from inside the nose. Thank God!
Also, I was relieved that his glasses did not break and cut his face/eyes.

I have no idea who come he could flip over half way through the slide.
Maybe he tried to stand up while sliding down?
Maybe his body did not lean backwards and lean too much forwards while sliding down?
Maybe his croc shoes gave too much resistant on the slide, hence his body fall forward instead?
I asked him how come he could flip over at the slide, he told me something like he thought he has reached the ground and wanted to stand up, but suddenly he just rolled down and fell flat.
After this 2 incidents, the way I looked at his fall, I started to suspect his eye sight problem. Could he having problem with depth perception?
I remember the eye specialist told me when I asked her can I postpone Isabel from wearing her glasses till older, she answered me like this,
" It is very important for a child to have a clear vision, especially during his/her first few years. This is when they start to develop their 3D vision and depth perception......"
We only discovered Darren's eye sight problem at the age of 4 and could it be his 3D vision/depth perception was not developed well, hence causes all these falls? Really a big question mark in my mind now. I must remember to ask the doctor to check on his depth perception during his next visit another 3 more months down the road.
Now he looked so bruised all over his face. We stopped him from going to school because of his sctached glasses. He may not be able to see well and it will be dangerous for him to go to school. Luckily we have done his new glasses but still need another 5 days, only we can collect it. In the mean time, he will be home bound and restrain from going to the park till he get his glasses...

Poor boy, my heart broke into pieces when I saw him fall and I could not do anything to help him at that time but only pray and pray. You know how helpless it is when you can't protect your child and seeing him get injured? Now whenever I look at his face with all the bruises and scratches at the nose, my heart sank.
Mommy wish your wound will recover faster and back to the cute and handsome Darren again soon. I miss the perfect you....Mommy loves you very much...Please be more careful next time, ok?
p/s: What a week, not only Darren fell down. Isabel also fell down on her knees last Friday at the park. 3 falls for 2 kids within few days. How my heart can be in full piece? It's so heartbreaking to see my kids injuries...though minor ones..yet..it is heartbreaking for a mommy...

poor boy... hope the bungalow is subside now.. oouch! pain to see this..
after fall still can play...its good sign. I was also thinking if it was his eyesight from the way he described why he fell.
Next time be careful Darren. Mummy is very sad to see you get hurt.
Oh dear, wish him speedy recovery. Soo Li, try using hard boiled egg to roll on his "bungalow". It work tremendously for Jude when he knock on the wall last round. Just make sure the egg is hot...
